"The Peace Monument" has been designed for location within the city of Jerusalem, or the "City of Peace," which is a center of ancient Mediterranean culture that is rich in architectural, cultural and spiritual landmarks. The city has layers of architectural styles that span three millennia. This is why "The Peace Monument" has been designed in a way that reflects the classical and simple lines of the ancient Mediterranean surroundings. The minimalist design of the white rods and delicate ring of marble will be set against the majestic "golden stones" of Jerusalem. The only additional effects will be provided by white illuminations at night. This will add to the power of the monument and add to the eternal presence of a forest of hope within the Holy City.
A forest of 210 smooth rods topped with the symbols of Judaism, Christianity and Islam rises up from a dramatic opening in the ground. The delicate, pure white rods rise toward the sky, symbolizing the hope, spiritual traditions and aspirations of the people whose religious traditions are rooted in the Holy Land. Some of the rods are broken or misaligned and damaged, symbolizing those who have fallen in the conflicts of the past.
Despite its visual simplicity and purity of design, the technical aspects of the monument are very advanced. Coated with marble powder, the rods will be made of carbon-fiber and Kevlar, which are incredibly strong, yet light materials. Formula Yacht company of the United Kingdom, which specializes in the best yacht masts, has committed to fabricate the rods at a special rate. These rods will be suspended in a foundation made of a liquid mix of concrete and carbon fibers. The "floating" foundation will be organized by a grid. The structural engineer for such a sophisticated base will be Mr. Mitsuo Miyazaki, one of the best Japanese structural engineers that works for Sumitomo Corporation′s division of building for earthquake zones and other compromised sites. The "floating" foundation will prevent or minimize damage from settling and will minimize damages from potential attempts to destroy the Monument. Arguably the best company specializing in the technical aspects of film, special effects, theater and multimedia, TOHO Studios of Tokyo, Japan, will design the illumination systems.
